Prior to conducting any cryogenic testing on the cylinders it was necessary to establish the baseline cylinder ambient performance of the cylinders. Three cylinders from each configuration were hydroburst at ambient conditions using HEI's model 82053 Haskel Test Pack hydrostatic burst pump. The following photos show the burst pump and burst chamber where the cylinders were burst.

The following table summarizes and documents the results of the baseline testing. The cryogenic maximum and minimum test pressures were derived using the logic summarized in section 2.2.

The following photos show some of the failed test cylinders after being hydrostatically burst tested and are representative of the whole population of test cylinders.

A cylinder from each configuration manufactured by Dr. DeLay was also tested. The burst information is as detailed in the following table. Because only one cylinder was tested, it was necessary to assume a coefficient of variation to be able to derive a safe test pressure range. A CV of 3.0% was assumed, as this is a fairly typical value for this standard pressure vessel of this size and configuration.
